Every layer is inspected by a person and produces an artifact you keep. The tooling is named, so you can see exactly how each number was produced.

Layer 01 - Infrastructure Audit

Every piece of hardware in the environment:  routers, switches, access points, patch panels, racks.

  • Improper device placement, overheating, or power issues

  • Cable management problems and physical strain on ports

  • Lifecycle status:  equipment aged past manufacturer support

  • Backup power (UPS), cooling, and wiring integrity

Layer 02 - Performance & Stress Testing

Performance problems are usually intermittent and invisible until the network is under pressure, so we put it under pressure.

  • Bandwidth utilization at normal and peak hours

  • Latency and jitter, particularly for VoIP and cloud applications

  • Packet loss, throughput inconsistency, and bottlenecks

  • QoS effectiveness, whether critical apps actually get priority

WHAT THIS LAYER PRODUCES:

Benchmarked performance metrics, with the specific cause of each slowdown identified.

 

Layer 03 - Architecture & Design Review

The logical structure, evaluated for scalability, resilience and manageability.

 

  • VLAN, subnetting, IP scheme and routing mapping

  • Switch capacity and port availability

  • Redundancy and failover: secondary uplinks, dual WAN

  • Segmentation, whether sensitive systems are genuinely isolated

Physical and logical network diagrams, a visual baseline you keep and build on.

 

Layer 04 - Patch Panel & Cabling Documentation

A mislabeled port costs hours of IT time every time someone touches it. We trace, label and document the lot.

  • Patch panel ports mapped to connected devices and switch ports

  • Mislabeled or inactive lines identified

  • Cable types (Cat5e, Cat6) and length impacts

  • Diagrams showing every connection down to the endpoint

Layer 05 - Wireless Site Survey

Wi-Fi is business-critical and usually the first thing users complain about. A full site survey settles the argument.

  • Signal strength and coverage gaps, shown as heatmaps

  • Access point placement effectiveness

  • Interference from nearby devices, overlapping channels, physical barriers

  • Load handling and performance at peak usage

How long does a network assessment take?

Fieldwork typically runs [CONFIRM] on site, depending on package and number of locations, with the report delivered [CONFIRM] afterwards. Multi-site Enterprise engagements are scheduled per location. You get the delivery date in writing before we start.

Will this disrupt our network or require downtime?

No outage window is required. The audit, architecture review and cabling documentation are observational. Performance and stress testing generates real traffic, so we schedule it with your team, usually outside business hours, and you approve the window before anything runs. Wireless surveying is entirely passive.

 

What access do you need from us?

Read-only access to network devices and monitoring, physical access to closets and racks for the cabling and hardware layers, and a technical point of contact who can answer questions during fieldwork. How is it priced?

By package tier and site count, banded on user population, so the number doesn't move if the work takes longer than expected. Nothing is billed hourly. We already have monitoring. Why do we need this?

Monitoring tells you when something breaks. An assessment tells you what you have, how it's connected, and what's going to break next. Most monitoring platforms are only as accurate as the inventory they were configured against, and that inventory is usually years stale. Several clients have used the assessment output to fix the monitoring they were already paying for.

What do we do with the findings?

The report separates findings into what to fix now, what to plan, and what to fund, so it works as a budget document as well as a technical one. From there most organizations move into Optimization to act on the quick wins, or hand the estate to managed networking. There's no obligation to do either with us, and the diagrams and inventory are yours regardless.
